About: gorsch the cellist
Anchor 1
Gorsch the Cellist is a story based on a novel by renowned Japanese poet/novelist Kenji Miyazawa.
Kenji Miyazawa (1896-1933) is considered one of Japan’s most profound poets/novelists. His novels are timeless classics, often utilizing whimsical themes with a distinctly Japanese touch. Influenced by his religious upbringing, his works reflect themes of morality and human nature in tandem with the natural world.
In this theatrical retelling of his work, a struggling cellist finds a way to understand and feel the music in a deeply profound way thanks to his interactions with animals, who visit him at night. Gorsch the Cellist weaves the poignancy of Kenji Miyazawa’s works with the tale, creating a show that feels like visual poetry.
